Have you noticed a change? In the past, when users wanted to find something, place an order, or make a reservation in your Mini Program, they had to open it themselves, scroll through the menu, and navigate through layer after layer of options. Now, WeChat is reversing this process—AI searches and performs actions for you, and all users need to do is say a few words.
On June 8, 2026, the WeChat Open Platform officially released the “Guidelines for Developers Integrating with the WeChat AI Ecosystem,” announcing that WeChat AI is opening its APIs to all Mini Program developers. Simply put,Mini-programs have the potential to transition from being “actively opened by users” to being “actively invoked by AI.” 。
What exactly did this incident change?
The previous interaction flow was “user clicks a button → page loads → fills out a form.” After integrating WeChat AI, the flow changed to “user states a request → AI understands the intent → automatically launches your Mini Program to complete the action.”
For example: If a user says, “Order me a coffee for 3:00 p.m. tomorrow,” in the WeChat AI chat window, the AI will automatically find your mini-program, select the right options, fill in the address, and even complete the payment.Users don't need to open your mini-program at any point in the process, yet the service has already been completed.
WeChat offers two integration modes, both of which can be enabled simultaneously:
Auto Mode: Authorize the platform to access the mini-program's source code; no additional development is required. The platform automatically analyzes the pages and allows the AI to take direct action.
Development Mode: Developers create these on their own based on business requirements, packaging Mini Program features into "SKILLs" that can be called by AI. After passing the platform's review, these SKILLs are invoked by WeChat AI.
For most companies,Auto mode requires virtually no learning curve—With the flip of a switch, WeChat can “translate” your mini-program into a tool that AI can call upon.
What does this mean for your business?
Leading platforms already integrated into the WeChat ecosystem include Meituan, JD.com, Didi, Ctrip, DeWoo, and KFC. As one of the first service providers to participate in the beta testing, Youzan enables its merchants to cover approximately 80% of their business operations through WeChat chats. Youzan’s AI agent has been invoked more than 36 million times to date, helping merchants save approximately 1 million person-days in operational resources.
Weimob has explicitly stated that the one million merchants it serves are expected to unlock a new growth pathway characterized by “AI-driven, intelligent connectivity.” The industry generally views this upgrade to WeChat’s AI ecosystem asAnother structural ecosystem dividend following the launch of Video Channel five years ago...will reshape the traffic distribution and commercial implementation logic of the WeChat ecosystem.
To put it more plainly:In the past, if users “couldn’t find you,” they might have left; in the future, “not being able to find you” will mean that AI won’t even have a chance to call on your services. Mini-programs that integrate AI will be prioritized in every user conversation; those that don’t may not even have a chance to be “seen.”
What should companies do now?
Step 1: Determine whether your mini-program is suitable for integration. If your mini-program handles high-frequency service scenarios such as appointments, order placement, inquiries, and customer service, integrating AI will lead to a very immediate improvement in the user experience.
Step 2: Select the connection mode. Most companies can start with the automated mode, which has a low barrier to entry and delivers quick results. If your business logic is complex and requires fine-grained control over how the AI calls your services, you can then consider the development mode, where you encapsulate core functions as SKILLs and actively “teach” the AI how to call your services.
Step 3: Find the right technology partner. Getting connected isn't the hardest part; the hard part isHelp AI “understand” your business logic, ensuring accurate calls and a seamless user experience. The AI development model for mini-programs involves a series of technical details, such as atomic interface design, atomic component rendering, and page relay configuration; the quality of these configurations directly affects the performance of AI calls.
